Replacing Hydraulic clutch Cylinders - BMW E30 DIY Project ep16

After accidentally (ignorantly) leaving the clutch fluid reservoir empty, i found the clutch pedal stopped working while driving... Possibly the lack of fluid caused or accelerated the deterioration of the seals in the hydraulic clutch system. Anyway we'll get the old master and slave cylinders out, and replace with brand new parts 😊 This is my 1991 BMW E30, 318i, with M40 engine. Right hand dr...
Tachometer Fixed with Cheap Batteries - BMW E30 DIY Project ep15

The tachometer on my E30 was broken, so I couldn't see what RPM my engine was running at. I fixed it by replacing the original CR14250SE lithium batteries with some much cheaper and readily available CR2 batteries (a.k.a. 1/2 AA batteries). Apparently I'm not the only one having great difficulty detaching the propeller shaft from the diff on a BMW E30 😅 In my case, I need to move the propshaft out of the way, so that I can drop the fuel tank and finally fix a fuel hose leak. Painting Basic Calipers for a Smooth Finish - BMW E30 Project ep8

Hi TJ, I can't seem to find the right knock sensor for a M50b25, single vanos? seeking your help pls.
Hi @@jagakuna1989 - perhaps you can try this BMW stockist in KL: Inner Power
You are awesome man, amazing work with out proper tool, my hat off to you. Well Done!
Where did you buy the calliper bracket from? they seem impossible to find or either really expensive
good video btw
@@bigspear4358 thanks! Got the brakes on eBay, from a seller in Chicago. If I remember correctly, they were RM800++ including shipping
Buen video, y muy útil. Gracias, saludos desde Puebla, México 🇲🇽
Great video! Thank you very much!
How much the Turque for bolt pin?
5lb.ft
@@PorchGarage hello there. watching here from PHI. just want to clarify the correct amount of torque you use on bolts on the guide pins, is it 25 ft lb or 5 ft lb?
@@PorchGarage hello there. is it5 lb ft or 25 lb ft?
Part you found in your sump is part of the valve train. Remove your valve cover and inspect.
@@gregory891 yup, think it was a washer for the cams. I found a different sized one installed - guess it could be a bit too thin and causing my rattling. Unfortunately i already disposed of the larger one i found in the oil pan!
my green LEDs always light up when i turn on ignition switch. It goes off after turnign on engine. IS this also due to bad batteries?
Sorry, i haven't got a clue. Are you sure it's not just normal behavior like newer cars? Anyway a lot of the stuff I've found regarding the E30 has been on E30Zone: www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php?title=Instruments#Dash_Lights www.e30zone.net/forum/search.php?keywords=Tachometer&terms=all&author&sc=1&sf=titleonly&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
@@PorchGarage thanks. I also consult this website. But I wonder what the SI batteries are really for other than powering the tachometer. Are they also used to store service indicator lights memories?
I install them but they interference with my parking sensor. Sensors stay on all the time when the light are on
Wow, that's unfortunate. Someone on this forum said it's due to some radio frequency interference - followed by this person who added a solution: www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1297046-led-backup-lights-backup-sensors-acting-up-2.html#post18933529
kinda painful.. mine terios no need to remove those rear seat just fold it to make it flat
Working on this on my 89 e30 cabrio. It has the motometer. When I got to this step( 7:57 ) the batteries were super corroded and they are a much much bigger size (like a aa). Should be fine, I’ll jump with wire but kinda funny. The board is also vdo even though the cluster is motometer
I think you should match the voltage. An actual AA battery's voltage will be too different - should be fine if the old and new batteries have the same voltage 🤔
Yeah. I’ll validate. I just thought it was funny how they are different sizes. Thanks for making the video. Very helpful all around
Where can I buy these batteries? Great video. Thanks!
Hi. I think they are used for some old cameras, so maybe film shops will have them - I'm not sure. Should be easy enough to find online - look for CR2 batteries
no issues?
Nope! I sold the car 3 months ago, so i used it for almost 3.5 years without problem. I don't have any new vs 3.5 year old brightness measurements, but i also just installed another set of LED headlights on the new car and don't notice any major differences in brightness.
@@PorchGarage Thank you very much . My gf's car Halogen headlight went out. and looking for a good replacement.

I wouldn’t bother if you gonna keep an original 318i motor as they’re just a cruising engine, so basically unless you’re gonna do an engine upgrade then no need to upgrade breaks. But good vid for those upgrading to more HP

Hi, I replaced my head lamp bulb but it still not working
What is the size of these rotors?
Sorry to resurrect an old topic but I’m trying to find one of the hoses and it’s like it doesn’t exist but you’ve got it, it’s the hose in the center at the top of the screen at 9:30, half metal half rubber. could you tell me what part that is cause I thought it was a return line but I can’t find anything anywhere about it. Thanks

Hi kind sir.. ps advise me .. I m giving up., my Avanza steering (shaft) was leaking .. n repaired but aftr changed shaft .. still problm.. leaking Fr steering n the power steering becomes heavy n can’t turn left n right .. wat is the problem with my car? Ps help
Hi there. Sorry, I don't have the expertise to advise you on that. I'm just doing DIY maintenance on my own cars 😊 Perhaps a different workshop could fix your problem
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!

2:15 whats that exclamation point sensor for?
Hmm, I'm not sure. Maybe a check engine light? www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php/Instruments#Check_Light
or maybe brake fluid level?
Best video I've seen on this repair, thank you
Hi perhaps you should starts the engine first to see whether it can starts and also show if the water pump got any leaks , we really would like to hear how the engine sound after repair. 😄
Best vid of this repair on UA-cam!
Hi FYI, the flat plate you place behind the brake pad is not a noise reduction plate. The plate will create a screeching noise when the pads is running low and should be install at the position on that side which the old pad is thinner.
Oh i see. Those prongs are the low pad indicators. Thanks!
Hi TJ, is it possible to just remove the steering coupling that connects the column to the rack without removing the rack? The reason I want to do this is to allow my exhaust manifold to be removed in order to weld the cracks. My situation is somewhat special. the manifold pipes sort of "wrap around" the steering column and it is impossible to take out the manifold without removing the coupling.
IIRC the bolts on that coupling can't be removed, so you can't just undo them and slide the coupling off. However, you might be able to wriggle the coupling off if you remove the bolts that hold the rack to the subframe and push the rack as far forwards as it can go.
I'm very impressed with the very thorough job. Your workshop etiquette and procedures are top notch. Well done, my friend. Keep it up. I'm looking forward to the next video
Thank you!
bro silau tak?
I turn down the headlight angle to "1". 0 is highest but i think it will be glaring for other drivers. My friends have no complaints about glare when i drive behind them.
What about bleeding the system?
Replacing the cylinders basically removes all the old fluid. Bubbles seem to travel upwards to the reservoir. I suppose if you want to just bleed the fluid and replace with new fluid, you can just undo the lines at the slave cylinder and the old fluid will drain out
Hi broo , all parts done , but rear brake need option every month . Whats the problem
thanks mate, very usefull!
The problem you initially had was that the force was being cushioned by the moving prop. Locking the prop was the solution.
Oh, I think you're right! Thanks for sharing
i opened my front brake wanting to change pads and found out the disc is solid disc with a single piston caliper. and my car is 325i. why do i NOT get vented discs?
Weird 🤷♂️ What i found online says that the 325i comes with ventilated discs. My upgrade was 325i-spec. Which country is the car from?
Malaysia johor car but all made in Germany 1988 CBU. but i heard from a friend too that the disc is vented too. he also told me the caliper is of double piston. Can you verify this? @@PorchGarage

Thanks for the video, but after changing this seal 3 times with 3 different ones - oil still leak like crazy, turns out my selector goes way too much inside when in 2nd and 4th it creates a gap for oil to escape (getrag 260)
